MOOMilk MOO-vie, "Betting the Farm" a big hit in Maine - and beyond!

Betting the Farm, the beautifully crafted, hard-hitting documentary which tells the story of MOOMilk's first two tumultuous years, premiered at Silverdocs last June, and in Maine to a sold-out crowd at the Camden International Film Festival in September.  The film played to packed crowds in more than twenty locations in Maine in the fall, with the filmmakers, MOOMilk farmers and MOOMilk staff on hand for question and answer sessions following the screenings.  The film has also been screened at documentary festivals including SLIFF, DOC NYC and Big Sky Documentary Festival.   In January, it was featured as Whole Foods' film of the month at their Do Something Reel Film Festival and became available for rental or purchase from iTunes, Amazon Instant Video, YouTube and Vudo.  DVDs are also available on the film website.  It has also been chosen to screen at the 2013 Slow Money National Gathering in Boulder, CO on April 29 at 8 PM. 

BETTING THE FARM chronicles a group of Maine dairy farmers, who after dropped by their national milk company, launch their own milk company, MOO Milk, in a bid to save their farms. BETTING THE FARM follows three farmers — Aaron Bell, Vaughn Chase, and Richard Lary — and their families through the tumultuous first two years of MOO Milk. With intimate access to their triumphs and disappointments, the film gives audiences a rare glimpse at the real lives of American farmers at a crossroads.

Maine's Own Organic Milk Company produces high quality organic milk.  We are dedicated to keeping organic family farms across Maine in business.  The farms that produce our milk share ownership in the company, and 90 percent of our profits are returned directly to those farms.

Maine Farm Bureau, Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association and the Maine Department of Agriculture worked together with these farmers to help create this company.  Start-up funding was provided by Stonyfield Farm, Oakhurst Dairy and Smiling Hill Farm.

The family farms involved are of many different sizes and each has its own story.  Collectively, they represent the hard work, innovation, commitment to conservation, wise use of natural resources, and the traditional community values that make Maine's agricultural sector a key component of the state's economy. 

Keeping these farm families viable has also helped protect hundreds of acres of Maine farmland. 

Not only is our milk produced on Maine farms, it is also trucked, processed, and distributed through a strong network of Maine family-owned businesses.
